Lifeguard rescues boy at East Grand Forks poolEAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. - A lifeguard at East Grand Forks swimming pool pulled a boy from the water about 5 p.m. Sunday.
The boy, who was believed to be 5 or 6, was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital.
“I saw the kid in the water. He started rolling, so I jumped in,” lifeguard Taylor Holweger said. “He was really purple. He was choking on water. It was scary. When I carried him, he couldn’t talk.”
The boy recovered enough to begin talking by the time paramedics took him to the hospital. His mother was with him in the pool.
About 20 people were at the pool at the time. The pool was closed for about 30 minutes, according to Chris Dietrich, assistant manager.
