Letter: ND Democrats have it wrong once againDemocratic-NPL Chairman Bob Valeu can disagree with Republican Party Chairman Stan Stein all he wants, but it still doesn’t change the fact that Stein is right.
Valeu went as far as to say that the 2013 legislative session was an abysmal failure. This statement makes me wonder why he considers record education funding, infrastructure spending for the oil- and non-oil-producing counties, property tax relief, and the other items championed by the Republican majority as failures for our state.
Maybe Valeu would like to return to the 1980s when we had a Democratic-controlled Legislature. During this time the state was cutting education funding, pushing tax increases and the unemployment rate was at the highest rate we have seen in decades. Is this what Valeu would consider a “successful” legislative session?
I admit that the times are different from then to now, but the Republican Party has kept the same principles all along, and that is to look out for the people. I, for one, would like to keep moving forward as we are under the leadership of the Republican majority.
Yes, the sessions are going to be hard because the issues are complex, but I can sleep comfortably knowing that we won’t be spiraling out of control as was the case during the time of Democratic leadership as Valeu would love for us to forget.
