Belcourt man sentenced for metal bar, sledgehammer assaultsBISMARCK — A Belcourt man has been sentenced for separate assaults on the Turtle Mountain Reservation involving a metal bar and a sledgehammer.
Twenty-five-year-old Joey Short was sentenced to two years and nine months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. He also must pay nearly $18,000 in restitution.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Short hit a man in the head with a metal bar last July, and the victim was hospitalized with a skull fracture and concussion. Short struck another man in the head with a sledgehammer last October. That victim required stitches.
