Moorhead wind turbine down for maintenanceMOORHEAD – Moorhead Public Service’s wind turbine generator, Zephyr, was taken offline in January due to a gearbox failure.
MPS has been working to acquire a replacement gearbox through a formal bidding process. MPS expected the gearbox to be installed in May, but due to the extended winter and large amount of rain received in this area, MPS will be delaying the replacement of the gearbox until ground conditions allow a crane onsite.
The wind turbine gearbox should be repaired and returned to service in late June or early July.
MPS is a community-owned utility serving the residents of Moorhead with electricity and water.
