Miami Heat, Sioux Falls team strike dealThe Miami Heat announced Monday that they entered a single-affiliation partnership with the NBA Development League's Sioux Falls Skyforce beginning in the 2013-14 season.
The Heat will be the only NBA team affiliated with the Skyforce and will fully control the team's basketball operations.
Twelve other NBA teams have single-affiliation deals with D-League teams. Additionally, the Heat are among six NBA teams that fully operate a D-League team.
"We have been working with the Skyforce for four years and feel that it is one of the most professional organizations in the NBA Development League," Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement. "It will be a pleasure working with (Skyforce owner/president) Mike Heineman to make this partnership a success for both them and the Miami Heat."
The Skyforce joined the NBA D-League in 2006. It served under the International Basketball League (2000-01) and the Continental Basketball Association (1989-2000, 2001-2006).
