Weather Talk: June is Fargo-Moorhead’s rainiest month of the year

That we are experiencing a rainy June so far goes without question. That the weather is often rainy at the time of RibFest in Fargo also goes without question. (Although it was sunny and hot for RibFest 2012.)

But the problem is not just one of barbecue and is not peculiar to this year. June is, in fact, the rainiest month of the year in Fargo-Moorhead. On average, rain falls on 13 out of 30 days in June. This makes the odds of getting rain on any day in June an astounding 43 percent.

Not all of those are gully-washers or frog-stranglers, but June weather just tends to be unsettled. This is partly because June is really more of a spring month than a summer month in Fargo- Moorhead. Hot weather in June is not common, with an average of only two days in the 90s during the month.

More consistently sunny and summery weather is more typical in July and August.
