Lind: ND pastor surprised by sales at holy site
For Jesus, that was no problem; he turned some water into wine.
This occurred in the town of Cana.
Well, back in 1985, Arland Fiske visited Cana and found that local residents still connect with that miracle. But not necessarily for its spiritual message.
Arland, who now is 86, is a retired Lutheran pastor. He grew up on a farm at Colfax, N.D., served churches in North Dakota, Missouri, Illinois and Minnesota, retired and lived in Moorhead and now lives in Moody, Texas, from where he turns out a daily devotional on the Internet.
Recently his devotional told of his visit to Cana, nine miles northwest of Nazareth, Israel.
“A burly Arab,” Arland wrote, “came to me with a bottle of wine under each arm, saying ‘Cana wedding wine – two dollars.’
“I didn’t buy any,” Arland said, “but I’m sure many tourists did.”
In any event, Arland concluded his devotional with this prayer, “Lord Jesus, fill our lives with the good wine of your love.”
