Letter: Remember to vote these bums outIn reading Tom Fiebiger’s column of June 2, I began to compare North Dakota with like states, and it makes me angry. How could North Dakota fall so far?
I grew up in Fargo-Moorhead, and I am embarrassed to admit that I live in Arizona now. It is a great state to live in, but the politics are terrible. Luckily I don’t live in Mississippi, but the three states are similar politically. All have conservative Republican majorities. All have leadership with a very narrow radical agenda. All are anti-women. All are anti-education for all. All are anti-gay. Much of the legislation is American Legislative Exchange Council-inspired.
Fiebiger’s point of fostering not just our economy but our humanity as well, is a good one, but this idea will fall on deaf ears in these conservative legislatures. These politicians are beholden to the big money that ALEC is more than willing to spend. Their big-corporation, anything-for-profit conservative agenda is force-fed to the likes of Sen. Kelly Armstrong, R-Dickinson, N.D., and I see similar bills in Arizona, Mississippi and other red states.
I hope the Democrats and independents can get together and vote the bums out. Remember, your one vote counts.
