Honors and officers (June 8)Jason Bohrer to lead Lignite Energy Council
Jason Bohrer has been named president and chief executive officer of the Lignite Energy Council, Bismarck.
Bohrer succeeds John Dwyer, who is retiring after holding the position for 32 years.
Bohrer has 15 years of experience in public policy and stakeholder relations, serving most recently as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador and as a legislative counsel to Sen. James Risch on energy policy, transmission, cyber security and regulated utilities.
Bohrer, a graduate of North Dakota State University, also has a law degree from George Mason University School of Law. He began his political career in Boise, Idaho, where he served as the state Republican Party’s communications director.
Kling elected president of ND Motor Carriers
Marlin Kling, president of Midwest Motor Express, was elected to a two-year term as president of the North Dakota Motor Carriers Association.
Midwest Motor Express, Bismarck, was a founding member of the NDMCA when it was first organized in 1934, and Kling is the fifth person from Midwest Motor Express to serve as president.
He has been with the company since 1990 and became president in 2004. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks.
Midwest Motor Express was also honored as one of 11 carriers to receive a fleet safety award for their operations in 2012. The awards are given annually to carriers who display an exemplary commitment to safety.
Two financial advisers form partnership
Wealth advisers Shad Connor and Steve Asche, both of the Fargo area, have joined to form the Red River Wealth Advisors of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Connor and Asche have a combined 33 years of experience as financial advisers.
Swiontek appointed to advisory committee
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has appointed Steve Swiontek, Gate City Bank chairman, president and chief executive officer, as a member of the Mutual Savings Associations Advisory Committee.
The committee provides advice to the comptroller of the currency about mutual savings associations, and will assess the current condition of mutual savings associations, regulatory changes that may ensure the health and viability of mutual savings associations, and other issues affecting these institutions.
Swiontek, a graduate of North Dakota State University with a degree in business economics, joined Gate City Bank in 1978.
Swanson Health earns award for OmegaActiv
Swanson Health Products’ OmegaActiv Super DPA Fish Oil was recently named the winner of the SupplySide Insight Award in the omega-3 category.
The awards recognize successful market launches driven by collaborative partnerships between suppliers and manufacturers in beverage, cosmetics and omega-3.
American Family agents earn excellence awards
American Family Insurance agents Micah Arnold, DJ Colter, Lynn Johnson, Bruce Karevold, Kenneth Kraft and Toby Lommen, all of Fargo, and Christopher Heise, West Fargo, have been recognized for providing outstanding customer experience under the American Star Excellence in Customer Experience Certification.
They join other American Family agents who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to outstanding customer service.
YMCA re-elects five members to board
The YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties has re-elected Brian Hastings, Rick Buresh, Stacey Ackerman, Brian Becker and Carol Grimm to the board of directors for another three-year term.
Mathias attends Lives Leaders Summit
Michael Mathias, a wealth management adviser for Northwestern Mutual in Fargo, qualified for and attended the recent 2013 Lives Leaders Summit in Chicago.
Attendance indicates a high level of sales and service achievement and is a well-recognized mark of excellence.
Mathias has been associated with Northwestern Mutual since 1978. He earned a bachelor’s degree in science and mathematics from North Dakota State University.
Bulat works 35 years at Johnson Controls
Steve Bulat is celebrating his 35th year with Johnson Controls in Fargo.
In June 1978, Bulat started as an HVAC mechanic. He has held a variety of positions within the company and is now a service systems technician.
M&J Construction earns award for remodeling
M&J Construction’s remodel of a single-family Moorhead home has earned the Remodeler Project of the Quarter award from CertainTeed Corp.
CertainTeed, a building products manufacturer, recognizes the exemplary craftsmanship in remodeling projects through the award program on a quarterly basis.
M&J Construction of Moorhead specializes in roofing, siding and remodeling work.
Two earn Toastmaster communication honor
Carmen Bruhn and Brett Gilbertson, members of Top O’ the Morning Toastmasters in Fargo, recently received the Competent Communicator distinction from Toastmasters International.
To receive this honor, Bruhn and Gilbertson successfully prepared and presented 10 speeches on various topics that met specific Toastmasters criteria.
