Thrivent not just for Lutherans anymoreMINNEAPOLIS — Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is not just for Lutherans anymore.
The Minneapolis-based company is dropping its Lutheran requirement and opening its membership and business services to all Christians.
The not-for-profit confirmed Thursday that 72 percent of the nearly 425,000 Thrivent members who cast their votes in March voted yes to revising the organization's articles of incorporation.
The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/14j0OCH) reports about 21 percent of Thrivent's total membership voted on the measure, more than executives had anticipated.
The company says the change likely will start at the beginning of 2014. The company's legal name won't change, but it will continue to use a shorter version of its name in marketing.
Thrivent is a fraternal benefit society and a Fortune 500 company that provides banking, investment and insurance products.
