Ritchie Valens' sister coming to Minnesota Eddie Cochran festALBERT LEA, Minn. — The sister of "La Bamba" singer Ritchie Valens will help a southern Minnesota town celebrate its own pioneering rock 'n' roll star this weekend.
Connie Valens will be in Albert Lea Friday and Saturday for the 27th annual Eddie Cochran Days.
Valens' older brother was 17 when he died with Buddy Holly and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson in an Iowa plane crash in 1959.
Cochran, a native of Albert Lea, was 21 when he died after a 1960 car crash in England. His hits include "Summertime Blues" and "C'mon Everybody."
Connie Valens tells The Albert Lea Tribune (http://bit.ly/122NVxk) that her being in Cochran's hometown is an honor and will help people remember the two musicians.
She also will sing at Saturday's concert.
