Search resumes in Pa. building collapse; 6 dead

PHILADELPHIA — Authorities say search efforts in the rubble of a collapsed building in Philadelphia that killed six people will continue through the afternoon, even though no one else is believed to be trapped.

City Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers says crews still need to search about 20 percent of the site, including the back of a thrift store. A neighboring building under demolition collapsed onto the thrift store Wednesday morning.

Mayor Michael Nutter says search and rescue crews are expected to work well into the afternoon.

Ayers says they will “stay the course” on the off-chance that someone is still trapped in the rubble.

A 61-year-old woman was pulled from the debris nearly 13 hours after the collapse and is hospitalized in critical condition.

Authorities have not released the victim's identities.
