Fargo police investigate collision of car, train near 27th St. and Main Ave.

FARGO - Police here are investigating a Tuesday night incident involving a car that was struck by a train.

The incident happened about 10 p.m. in the area of 27th Street just north of Main Avenue.

According to Deputy Police Chief Pat Claus:

The owner of the car, identified by police as Kent Zimmerman, 51, of Fargo, called police to report that he had been in his car with a friend when the friend, who was driving the vehicle, steered the car around road construction barriers and the car became disabled before it could fully cross some railroad tracks.

A short time later, the driver called a second time to report that the car, which had no one in it at the time, had been struck by a train.

No one was injured in the incident.

The case remains under investigation, police said.
