Replica of USS North Dakota to be featured in July 4 paradeMANDAN, N.D. — A Navy submarine named after North Dakota will be replicated in a Mandan Independence Day parade.
The nearly $13,000 float will be a miniature version of the $2 billion USS North Dakota. The replica will be 29 feet long and 12 feet high.
The actual submarine is the first ship to be named after the state since 1910. It's set to be christened in September.
The float is being sponsored by American Bank Center. Bank spokesman Chuck Bartholomay tells the Bismarck Tribune (http://bit.ly/130pb5d) that the project is "perfect for everybody."
