Car strikes horse near Lawton; two men injuredLAWTON, N.D. – A car struck a horse on Highway 1 two miles north of here Sunday, injuring the driver and passenger.
The accident happened at 5 a.m. when Jack Nesdahl, 29, East Grand Forks, Minn., was driving southbound, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
A horse had gotten loose from its pen near the highway and was standing in the middle of the southbound lane.
The center of Nesdahl’s car struck the horse. Nesdahl and his passenger, John Rodriguez, 16, East Grand Forks, walked to the farm to get help.
Both were taken to First Care Hospital, where Rodriguez was treated and released with minor injuries. Nesdahl was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, where he was treated and released.
Both were wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, according to Lt. Aaron Hummel.
