Two drivers injured in collision near Arvilla; one cited for DUI

ARVILLA, N.D. – Two drivers were injured when their cars collided Sunday at the junction of U.S. Highway 2 and a rural road about one mile west of here.

A car driven by Phillip Brune, 31, Arvilla, was northbound on 32nd Street Northeast from Larimore to rural Arvilla. A car driven by Josie Schmidt, 19, Minot, was traveling westbound on Highway 2, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Brune tried to cross Highway 2 and failed to yield to Schmidt. The front of Schmidt’s car struck the passenger side of Brune’s car. After the impact, both cars ran into a ditch, landing upright.

Schmidt was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed. She was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with non-life-threatening injuries.

Brune was not wearing a seat belt and also was transported to Altru with non-life-threatening injuries. He was charged with drunken driving, according to a report by Sgt. Greg Smith of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
