Letter: Moorhead city employees do excellent workIn The Forum editorial “Moorhead considers changes” (May 29), there was reference to examples of unfavorable “attitude and behavior” of some city staff members. For the record, it is important to point out that such instances of poor customer service are the rare exception, not the norm. The great majority of Moorhead city employees are excellent customer servants who regularly provide residents with “polite, timely and substantive responses.”
The city manager, city department heads and City Council members frequently receive highly positive comments about police officers, firefighters, operations workers, receptionists, engineers, recreation staff members, planners and other employees in every corner of the organization. It would be grossly unfair for the public to conclude that a major customer service problem exists. Instances of residents becoming “spitting mad” are extremely rare, isolated to relatively few incidents, and are truly not reflective of the real story of Moorhead’s hard-working, highly professional city workforce.
Yes, the council is looking at possible ways to make the structure of Moorhead city government more efficient and effective. But no matter where that effort leads, the success of the outcome will be because of the work of the outstanding group of people currently serving the city.
Thank you, Moorhead city employees, for your hard work and dedicated service. You are appreciated.
Hulett is a Moorhead city councilman.
