GOP businessman aims to challenge Minn.'s Franken
McFadden’s campaign launch Wednesday came in a three-minute Web video that describes his Minnesota roots and concern “about the direction this country is headed.” He’s a first-time candidate and the first Republican to step up against Franken. He also filed formal paperwork to form a campaign fundraising committee.
McFadden is 48 and runs a financial management firm. He plans to take a leave of absence from Lazard Middle Market in Minneapolis during his campaign.
Franken intends to seek another six-year term after winning the last one by a whisker following a recount and court fight. He has amassed a healthy campaign treasury.
