Moorhead moves ahead with bridge litigationMOORHEAD – Mayor Mark Voxland said the City Council decided Tuesday night during executive session it would move forward with litigation against owners of the single toll bridge here.
“We did have mediation with the owners a couple weeks ago that didn’t have any results for us,” Voxland said.
Voxland said the city attorney has until June 1 to file suit. That is when the current contract between Fargo, Moorhead and the owners of the bridge, Bridge Co., expires.
“The council thought the contract was pretty clear and the bridge should be turned over,” Voxland said.
The Fargo City Commission also went into executive session Tuesday to discuss the toll bridge. Afterward, City Attorney Erik Johnson said negotiations were ongoing.
Both cities have expressed interest in shared ownership of the bridge and making it free. The two cities could have granted a five-year extension to Bridge Co. and picked up the structure free of debt in 2018.
