Davenport man arrested after swim across Red

FARGO – A Davenport, N.D., man was arrested here after swimming across the Red River to get away from a Moorhead police officer.

A warrant was issued in Clay County for 36-year-old Ryan Dale Stark for felony controlled substance, according to a press release from Moorhead police.

A bail bondsman found Stark at a Moorhead business around 6 p.m. Tuesday and called for police backup. When the officer tried to arrest Stark, he ran away and swam across the river to Fargo near Oak Grove Park, the release said.

Fargo officers were in the area and were able to arrest Stark.

Stark was taken to Sanford Medical Center for a medical evaluation, where he once again tried to run from officers but was quickly apprehended, the release said.

Stark will be held in the Cass County Jail for the Clay County warrant and a new charge of fleeing on foot.

He may face additional charges from Fargo police, the release said.
