NDSU’s Orgon, Brost secure spots in NCAA nationals

AUSTIN, Texas – Another school-record throw by North Dakota State’s Casey Orgon in the hammer thrown allowed the senior to clinch a spot Saturday in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Orgon’s best toss of 216 feet, 6 inches placed fifth at the NCAA West Preliminary. The top 12 advanced to the national meet on June 6 in Eugene, Ore.

Orgon was the lone men’s qualifier for the national meet.

Leslie Brost was the lone women’s qualifier for NDSU. The senior was one of 11 women to clear 13 feet, 5 ¾ inches in the pole vault late Friday night.

Brost will compete in the pole vault at nationals on June 7.

Men

110 hurdles: 20, Tetzlaff 14.11.

Javelin: 17, Parker 215-0.

Shot put: 36, Berghuis 53-6 ¼.

Women

200: 26, Goodman 24.11.

400: 20, Tingelstad 54.30.

100 hurdles: 15, John 13.48.

3,000 steeplechase: 37, McClellan 10:40.73.

400 relay: 23, NDSU (John, Page, Tingelstad, Goodman) 45.96.

1,600 relay: 22, NDSU (Stratioti, Page, Kitching, Tingelstad) 3:41.09.

Javelin: 45, Rosenau 130-11.
