Refuge to celebrate new NCNST segmentDETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge here is celebrating National Trails Day June 1 with the grand opening of a new 21-mile segment of the North Country National Scenic Trail in Becker County.
The event kicks off May 31 with a 7 p.m. presentation by Minnesota author, naturalist and nature photographer, Stan Tekiela at Frazee High School. Saturday’s celebration will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new trail at 10 a.m., and there will be guided hikes throughout the day.
The event’s headquarters will be at Pine Lake Boat Access off of County Road 29, 14 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes. Attendees can stop by the event tent from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
