19-year-old Minnesota man killed in rolloverDOUGLAS COUNTY, Minn. – A 19-year-old man was killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 94 here around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Landon Lien, of Carlos, was killed after the vehicle he was in attempted to pass a semi-truck on westbound I-94, sideswiped it and rolled into the median near milepost 109, according to a Minnesota State Patrol news release.
Lien was not wearing his seat belt, and it is unknown if there was alcohol in his system, the patrol said.
Investigators did find an undisclosed amount of alcohol in the system of Jacob Dale, 18, of Alexandria, who was in the same vehicle as Lien.
Dale, who was wearing his seat belt, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Cloud Hospital. It is not yet known which of the two was driving the vehicle, the patrol said.
The semi driver, Chad Cave, 40, of Mandan, N.D., sustained no apparent injuries, the patrol said. There was no alcohol in his system, the patrol said.
Roads were wet at the time of the crash, according to the release. The crash is still under investigation.
