Triller tallies lone goal in Shanley's win over North

FARGO – Fargo Shanley freshman Anna Triller doesn’t have much experience in postseason soccer tournaments. But after her winning goal against

No. 3-seeded Fargo North in the East Region girls semifinals, you would think she’s a seasoned veteran.

Triller scored the only goal of the game off a cross from starting forward Alivia Fraase to beat the Spartans 1-0 on Friday at Sid Cichy Stadium to advance to the today’s championship against the No. 1 seed Fargo Davies.

“That was exciting,” Triller said. “We played really well together. We always do.”

Fraase took a pass deep in the box from Carly Mickelson and crossed it to a crashing Triller, who jumped for the header and flicked it through the hands of Spartans goalkeeper Kelsie Schmiess to give the Deacons a 1-0 lead.

Shanley continued to play aggressive throughout the half and had plenty of opportunities to score. Right before half, Triller beat a defender to send a cross to Sarah Jacobson, which overshot the freshman by a toe’s length and rolled into the hands of Schmiess, who finished with 16 saves for North.

“I think we should have finished a few more opportunities in the first half, but we did what we had to do, so I’m happy with how we played.” Deacons head coach Kevin Roos said. “It was a big goal for (Triller) and one of the most exciting goals we’ve had all year.”
