19-year-old woman sentenced in robberies

BISMARCK — A 19-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to five counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and one count of burglary was sentenced Friday to at least eight years in prison.

Justice Lange, formerly of Carrington, acknowledged committing the robberies with a man more than twice her age, the Bismarck Tribune reported.

"You will serve eight years in prison and you will have a number of years hanging over your head," South Central District Sonna Anderson said during the sentencing. "Hopefully that will help you in determining that you want to stay out of trouble."

Lange and Shane Wentz, 39, were accused of using a handgun to hold up the MainStay Suites and the Country West Shell on Feb. 4 and burglarizing the Soaps and Suds Laundry. Wentz is scheduled for trial in June.

Authorities say Lange confessed to Mandan police days after the crimes occurred, about the same time someone suggested she and Wentz may have been involved.

Lange's attorney, Kent Morrow, said she was using drugs at the time and she's willing to make the needed changes in her life.

"She was in a relationship with a much older man who had sway over her," Morrow said.
