Style profile: Girly, colorful style for high school student
The Fargo North High School sophomore is an aspiring designer who made her own prom dress this year, fashioned after one of Elie Saab’s haute couture gowns.
I stopped by Solberg’s home to see her sketches and prom dress. I liked her youthful, layered boho look, and I was impressed with her knowledge of designers and trends.
Describe your style.
I’m kind of girly, I like to wear a lot of skirts and dresses. I also wear a lot of color.
What are you wearing today?
A lace top by Hollister, dress and shoes from Target and belt from Anthropologie.
Who are your style icons?
I really like Lady Gaga even though you can’t really wear most of her stuff. I also like Twiggy because she was short for a model and had a different figure.
What inspires your style?
I like watching “Gossip Girl,” going on Pinterest, people watching, checking out The Sartorialist blog, and reading magazines like InStyle and Teen Vogue.
Where do you plan to go to college?
I want to go to Parsons (Parsons The New School for Design) in New York City.
What’s your dream job?
I want to design clothes, and after watching “The September Issue”
(a documentary about producing the September issue of Vogue), I’d like to be a fashion editor, too, since I like writing.
What would you buy if you had an unlimited budget?
A pair of classic black Christian Louboutin pumps.
