Judge sentences burglar stuck in bar’s air ducts

BISMARCK – A man who was arrested for burglary after he became trapped in the ventilation system in a Bismarck bar has been sentenced to more than a year in prison.

Bismarck police said a cleaning crew heard someone calling for help in the ceiling over the pool tables at O’Brien’s Tavern on Nov. 5. Police found 26-year-old Caleb Belile upside down. Emergency workers were able to free Belile in about 45 minutes.

Judge Cynthia Feland sentenced Belile to 18 months in prison and ordered him to pay $1,000 in restitution.

Defense attorney Tom Glass said Belile was stuck for nine hours. Glass said it’s “somewhat of a minor miracle he lived through that.”
