NDSU’s pitcher Johnson named to All-Midwest teamLOUISVILLE, Ky. – North Dakota State pitcher Whitney Johnson was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region second team by member coaches and is now eligible for selection to one of three NFCA All-American teams.
Johnson becomes the fifth NDSU softball player to earn
all-region honors, joining pitcher Krista Menke (2012), three-time selection first baseman Melissa Chmielewski (2008-09-10), catcher Kelly Cantrell (2009) and pitcherAllison Bakke (2008). Chmielewski and Cantrell were first-team picks in 2009.
Johnson completed an impressive senior year with a 23-9 record with 10 shutouts, two saves and 1.75 earned-run average. She struck out 265 and walked 85 in 216.1 innings pitched. Opponents hit only .173 off her this season.
