Chamber honors F-M businesses, agencies

FARGO – The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual ChamberChoice Awards on Wednesday, handing out honors to businesses and nonprofits that have distinguished themselves in the community.

The categories and winners in each were:

•Small not-for-profit of the year, Red River Zoo.

•Small business of the year, Heartland Trust Co.

•Not-for-profit of the year, Family HealthCare Center.

•Business of the year, Border States Electric.

•Entrepreneur of the year, sisters Jodi Ellingson and Jill Krahn and their Hair Success Salon & Day Spa.

•Young professionals best place to work: Dawson Insurance.

The event, held at Ramada Plaza & Suites and Conference Center in Fargo, drew more than 700 people.

Award finalists and winners were selected by a panel of independent judges from the regional business community who evaluated accomplishments in the areas of business growth, innovation, creativity, community involvement and unique achievements relating to a specific business or industry.

Comedian James Cunningham, host of a Canadian reality TV show about street food called “Eat St.,” was master of ceremonies for the awards.

At one point, Cunningham told the crowd that of the many events he has hosted in his career he could honestly say that Wednesday’s ceremony in Fargo was “the most recent.”
