Tuesday Tip: Keep cheap jewelry looking new with clear coatFARGO – My jewelry drawer overflows with necklaces, rings and bracelets of almost every imaginable metallic finish and colored hue.
But in order to accumulate such a volume of baubles, I had to get them on the cheap.
I learned my lesson soon into my first day wearing a faux gold-and-pearl chain around my neck. By late afternoon, my neck had a peculiar green tinge to it.
But a recent Pinterest post I saw has hopefully prolonged the wearibility of my thrifty jewelry.
Pick up a can of clear (I recommend gloss) spray paint.
Prepare a well-ventilated area, with newspaper to protect surfaces, give each piece of jewelry a quick, thin coat of clear spray.
Allow to dry for about 10 minutes before flipping each piece and coating the other side. Repeat.
Set jewelry aside for at least 24 hours before wearing.
