Johnson's home run propels Cobbers baseball to MIAC title gameMINNETONKA, Minn. – Devin Johnson hit a two-run walk-off home run for Concordia as the Cobbers defeated Augsburg 7-5 in the semifinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball tournament on Saturday.
Concordia head coach Bucky Burgau says it was the relief pitching by Shawn Krueger and Bryce Feia that keep the Cobbers in the game.
“Both of those pitchers deserve a pat on the back,” he said.
The game-winner was Johnson’s second home run of the game. He also hit a homer in the bottom of the sixth.
“All year we have been resilient,” Burgau said. “Falling behind doesn’t bother us. We have a real good energetic team that finds ways to win.”
The Cobbers advance to the MIAC championship game to face No. 1-seeded St. Thomas at 1 pm. today.
“I’m sure anyone would have liked to win a little more comfortably,” Burgau said. “Maybe winning in this fashion will give us some momentum.”
