Letter: How about a little backbone at Legislature?I’m curious after reading The Forum articles concerning the latest open meeting violations by the state Board of Higher Education. How is it that the attorney general issues an “opinion” and yet he requires mandatory training on the open meeting laws? The laws have no teeth, no penalties.
Clearly I’m missing something, and The Forum article was a little vague on the penalty. No committee member gets removed from the committee, jail time or monetary fines.
Maybe, the next legislative session will have some bold legislators with backbones and they will put a strong penalty in the law. Otherwise the blatant abuse of the open meeting laws in North Dakota will continue.
