Deputy rescues horses from barn fire in Cass County

FARGO - A Cass County deputy who arrived at a barn engulfed in flames here this afternoon was able to get the three horses to a nearby pasture for safety.

Ryan Hegel, Horace fire chief, said crews arrived to the fire that had fully engulfed the barn at 9302 25th St. S. just after 3:30 p.m. when a passing farmer reported it.

No injuries were reported. The horses were unharmed.

Hegel said the 36-by-60-foot barn is a total loss. Equipment including a skidsteer inside the barn was destroyed. The homeowner was not on scene.

Wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph made extinguishing the fire difficult, Hegel said.
