Letter: It’s a child, not fetal tissue

The bald eagle will continue to be protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act even though it has been delisted under the Endangered Species Act. Under this law, anyone taking or destroying an eagle egg will be fined $10,000 and/or spend up to a year in jail. Rewards are provided for information leading to arrest and conviction for violation of the act.

The policymakers believed correctly that destroying an eagle egg is destroying an eagle, not just “fetal tissue.” Do we not see the schizophrenic disconnection of thought when it comes to an eagle egg and the fertilized egg in a woman’s body? Let us be honest and admit that it is not just “fetal tissue,” but a child.

So, an eagle is more valuable than a child? I can deal with people who will be honest and admit that it is indeed a child, but they want the choice to terminate the child to protect their own life (whatever that means), but I have little tolerance for people who want to justify their choice and lessen their guilt by calling it “fetal tissue.” Come on, you can’t be serious, just fetal tissue? Let’s get real – it is a child.
