Letter: Lack of services blocks ND move

I was born in North Dakota and spent my childhood there. Most of my family still lives there. My parents moved us after my dad graduated from the University of North Dakota Medical School to pursue residency.

I am now looking to move back to the Red River Valley to work in health care myself. Upon calling counties on both sides of the river, I was appalled to learn that North Dakota’s services for residents are much more lacking than the Minnesota side.

What if I become disabled? What if I died and my children were left without parents? The media talks of a growing population and oil money coming to North Dakota. If North Dakota government focused on using new money and resources to improve services for all residents in their state, (rather than challenging controversial Supreme Court rulings from 1973), I would consider returning and giving my tax money back into the state I used to love so much.

Unfortunately, until I see major changes in North Dakota’s priorities, I will continue to be a proud Minnesotan and forever live on the other side of the river.
