Moorhead to roll out phone app aimed at new home salesMOORHEAD – In its efforts to make prospective residents feel at home, the city of Moorhead will soon offer a new mobile app.
“It’s part of our effort to make housing more accessible,” said Lisa Vatnsdal, community development division manager.
The app, which Vatnsdal said came out of a suggestion by a real estate agent, is a mobile version of the information available at moorheadproperty.org.
That information includes an estimate of property taxes, special assessments information, flood information and a tax rebate calculator.
Vatnsdal said the app is still under development and will hopefully be available to download later this month.
As part of Moorhead’s Make Moorhead Home campaign, the app would be available to any real estate agent or prospective Moorhead homeowner. It should work on any smartphone or tablet, Vatnsdal said.
Brenda Elmer, Moorhead City Council member, said the app will be especially important to real estate agents. She said it will help them look up information “right on the spot” as they’re trying to sell a property.
“We’re hoping this app will just be one more tool for people looking for properties, and for stakeholders like Realtors,” Elmer said.
Make Moorhead Home, at www.makemoorheadhome.com, is a public relations campaign Moorhead started last year to draw people to the city after statistics showed that Moorhead isn’t growing like Fargo and West Fargo.
Aside from the app, another project Make Moorhead Home has underway is a “Welcome Home pass.”
Vatnsdal said it would offer buyers of newly constructed homes free access to golf, swimming and recreational programming for one year.
The pass would offer one round of golf to buyers of existing homes.
“It would be like a welcome gift,” Vatnsdal said.
The Welcome Home passes will be mailed to all 2013 homebuyers in about two weeks, along with a letter from Mayor Mark Voxland and a link to a homebuyer survey.
