Susan Welo earns financial adviser awards

Susan Welo of Securities America, Casselton, N.D., in partnership with First State Bank of North Dakota and Goose River Bank, has been awarded the No. 1 Producing Financial Adviser Award and the President’s Award by USAdvisors Network.

The Financial Adviser Award is based on gross dealer concession generated with securities and insurance business. The President’s Award is selected by USAdvisors Network president and founder, Nathan Bergeland, and is given to the adviser who exhibited the most commitment to their clients and community.

Berg elected to Minnkota Power board

Sid Berg, Colfax, N.D., has been elected to the Minnkota Power Cooperative board of directors.

Berg represents Cass County Electric Cooperative on the 11-member Minnkota board.

Thompson, Svenningsen elected to co-op board

Marvis Thompson, Perley, Minn., and Marcy Svenningsen, Valley City, N.D., have been elected to the 11-member Square Butte Electric Cooperative’s board of directors.

Thompson represents Red River Valley Cooperative Power Association, Halstad, Minn., and Svenningsen represents Cass County Electric Cooperative, Fargo.

The Village names board members, officers

Richard Duysen, Thomas Nelson, Karen Mellum and Judy Green have joined The Village Family Service Center’s board of directors in Fargo.

Duysen is the fire chief in Moorhead, Nelson is a communications and political consultant, Mellum is an organizational development consultant with Altru Health System and Green is regional executive director with the American Red Cross.

New officers elected are: Matthew Hallaway, Alerus Financial, chairman; Tammy Hauck, Dakota REIT, first vice chairwoman; and Carrie Bjorge, BlackRidgeBANK, second vice chairwoman.

Lyman Edds, Michelle Powers and Dale Mowry completed their terms and were honored for their many years of service on the board.

Three re-elected to AgCountry board

Three members of AgCountry Farm Credit Services board of directors have been re-elected to four-year terms. Those re-elected are Mike Long, Berlin, N.D.; Greg Sabolik, Kensington, Minn.; and Alton Hermunslie, Abercrombie, N.D.

Long has served on the board since 1997, and he and his brother operate a cow-calf operation and feedlot. They also raise corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa. Long represents the North Dakota counties of Barnes, Cass, Dickey, La-Moure, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Stutsman and Traill.

Sabolik operates a cow dairy operation and also raises corn, soybeans and alfalfa. He represents the Minnesota counties of Becker, Big Stone, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Ottertail, Pope, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena and Wilkin.

Hermunslie has served on the board since 1989. He raises corn, soybeans and wheat. As at-large director, he serves Barnes, Cass, Dickey, LaMoure, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Stutsman and Traill counties in North Dakota and Becker, Big Stone, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Ottertail, Pope, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena and Wilkin counties in Minnesota.

2 academic advisers honored at NDSU

North Dakota State University has named Janice Haggart, an instructor in the Department of Veterinary and Microbiological Sciences, recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Advising Award, and Linda Fricker, academic adviser for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, earned the Outstanding Professional Adviser Award.

The awards were established this year to highlight the importance of academic advising at NDSU and to recognized advisers who are committed to helping students.

Border States Electric earns state ESOP award

Border States Electric, Fargo, has been recognized as the 2013 Employee Stock Ownership Plan Company of the Year by the Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter of the ESOP Association.

BSE received the award for its involvement and participation in the chapter and national association, a high level of employee communications, community involvement and government relations activities.

The recognition has been forwarded to the national award competition, which will be announced Wednesday.

Jelsing honored for communication success

Cathy Jelsing, executive director of the Prairie Village Museum, Rugby, N.D., has been named the North Dakota Professional Communicator’s 2013 Communicator of Achievement.

Jelsing has been an NDPC member for 31 years. She began her career at the Devils Lake (N.D.) Journal, then spent 13 years at The Forum as an an arts and entertainment writer and features editor. She has lived and worked in Rugby since 2006.

She will be NDPC’s nominee for the communicator of achievement award at the National Federation of Press Women conference in August in Salt Lake City.

Digital Delight earns Best of Fargo award

Digital Delight, a professional disc jockey service in Fargo, was named the 2012 Best of Fargo award winner in the disc jockey category by the Fargo Award Program.

The program identifies companies that have achieved exceptional marketing success in their community and business category.

Digital Delight has been in business since 1997 and Christopher Aaser is the current owner.

Mjelstad qualifies for MDRT membership

Kevin Mjelstad, a financial representative with Northwestern Mutual, Fargo, has qualified for membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable, an international, independent association of nearly 19,000 leading life insurance producers.

MDRT is a career milestone that indicates sales and service achievement.

Mjelstad has been with Northwestern Mutual since 1989. A native of Watford City, N.D., he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

ShareHouse Foundation board members named

The ShareHouse Foundation, Fargo, has elected its 2013 board of directors.

The executive committee includes: Bill Wallwork, chairman; Judge Ralph Erickson, vice chairman; Stan Kaufman, treasurer; and Susan Richard, secretary. Directors elected include Dick Voight, Eric Johnson, Dr. Greg Bjerke, Larry Borlaug and Dr. Bob Montgomery.

Deborah Soliah is the executive director of the foundation.

Swanson Health winner of Insights award

Virgo, an information distribution company focused on innovative and complex business-to-business markets, has named Swanson Health Products, Fargo, a winner in its inaugural SupplySide Insights Awards.

Swanson was the winner in the Omega-3 category with its OmegaActiv Super DPA Fish Oil, developed with Cyvex Nutrition/

Omega Protein.

Berg named American Family agent of month

Brent Berg, an American Family Insurance agent in Moorhead, has been named the American Family Insurance District 67 Agent of the Month.

He received the honor for outstanding sales of insurance products in April.

Yohe awarded honorary lifetime membership

The North Dakota Chiropractic Association has awarded honorary lifetime membership to Kent Yohe.

The award is in recognition of Yohe’s dedication to the principles of chiropractic and for his service to the NDCA.

The Askland-Yohe Chiropractic Clinic is located at 2800 S. University Drive, Fargo.

Yohe has been in practice in Fargo since 1976 and specializes in applied kinesiology, acupuncture, orthopedic chiropractic techniques, chiropractic manipulative therapy and more.

He also serves as the chiropractor for the North Dakota State University Bison sports teams.

Cass County Electric names three to board

Cass County Electric Cooperative has re-elected John Froelich, Valley City, N.D., and Russell Berg, Horace, N.D., to serve District 1 and District 6, respectively.

Glenn Mitzel, West Fargo, was elected to the District 5(3) seat.

BNSF honors Fargo employee for safety

BNSF Railway has honored Erik Frohberg of Fargo with its Best of the Best Award.

Frohberg, manager of structures and engineering, was honored for demonstrating outstanding safety leadership. His work team achieved exceptional safety performance in 2012 and was injury free.

Halvorson qualifies for Court of the Table

David Halvorson, Fargo, has qualified for the Court of the Table of the Million Dollar Round Table. Halvorson is a 15-year MDRT member and three-time Court of the Table qualifier.

The honor recognizes Halvorson among the top professionals in the life insurance and financial services industry.
