NDSU NEWS: Tanner Goldade, son of Terry Goldade, Bismarck, and Ann Goldade, West Fargo, and Brenna Raab, daughter of Cory Raab, Rapid City, S.D., and Dena Raab, Fargo, have been admitted to North Dakota State University “with distinction.” Distinction means that NDSU is acknowledging them as honor students.

MSUM NEWS: Minnesota State University Moorhead has awarded Upper Class Scholarships to Hanna Erickson, child of Kelly and Jill Erickson, Fargo, and Kelsey Schaefer, child of Mark Johnson and Cindy Dokken, West Fargo. The scholarships recognize academic achievement, leadership and contributions to campus and community organizations.

NDSCS NEWS: The North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, recently awarded Early Bird Scholarships to the following area incoming freshman: Megan Kolness, Ada, Minn., $1,000; Chelsea Wanek, Breckenridge, Minn., $500; Katie Highness, Dilworth, $1,000; Alec Davis, Erhard, $1,000; Cole Gronhovd, Fingal, N.D., $500; Brady Sahr, Kindred, N.D., $500; Ashley Throlson, New Rockford, N.D., $1,000; and Chelby Ward, Wahpeton, $1,000.

AND THE WINNER IS …: The following area students were winners in a North Dakota Vision Services/School for the Blind Foundation art contest: Nevaeh Bock, Jacee Klein, Valley City, N.D.; Hunter Storhoff, Mapleton, N.D.; Alex Leach, Enderlin, N.D.; Ben Stugelmayer, Ethan Thiseth, Carlos Martinez, Emma Scott, Layla Alhamadah and Paxton Franke, all Fargo. The winning entries were put on notecards that will be sold with proceeds to benefit the foundation. To purchase 15 assorted cards for $20, call (800) 421-1181.

GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS: The North Dakota Petroleum Council has awarded $1,000 Al Golden Scholarships to five North Dakota students. Recipients and their colleges are as follows: Clay Feldner, North Dakota State University; Courtney Hausauer and Matt Jahner, both Bismarck State College; and Maxwell Johnson and Garred Olson, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. The scholarships area awarded each year to North Dakota students who are pursuing a post-secondary education in geology, engineering, processing plant technology, science, technical skills or other careers related to the oil and gas industry.

HIGH HONORS: Annie Cameron, Nina Grollman and Matthew Wisenden of Moorhead High School and Veronica Lesnar and Nick Kinnen of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School were awarded the Wells Fargo Spotlight on the Arts Award of Excellence in Speech at the 2013 Minnesota State High School Speech Tournament. Schools are chosen for the award if they receive a star rating from festival judges.

The following Park Christian School students have been inducted into the National Honor Society: Daniel Lewis, Katherine McCrea and David Thompkins, seniors; Hannah Conrad, Katarina Domitrovich, Haley Dyer, Josh Heinen, Courtney Nepstad, Jared Olsgaard and Morgan Rickbeil, juniors; Josiah Militzer, Anica Sawchuk and Kaylee Schultz, sophomores. Students are recognized for their commitment to scholarship, leadership, service and character.
