Style Profile: Study keeps look classic yet edgy
Sembucuttiaratchi’s mom gave her a white Gap shirt – a true classic style staple. The sociology student and fashion lover still has the top and considers her mom one of her fashion icons.
I spotted Sembucuttiaratchi outside of the HoDo looking fresh, polished and bold.
Describe your style. I always go for a clean, neat look.
What are you wearing today? Zara shoes, leather pants from H&M, jacket from Forever21 and clutch from a kiosk in the mall.
Where do you find style inspiration? Blogs like Garance Dore’s (a Paris street-fashion chronicler and artist), Cupcakes and Cashmere and Karla’s Closet. I also read fashion magazines.
Where do you shop? H&M, Zara, Urban Outfitters, and locally, Proper & Prim.
Who are your style icons? Olivia Palermo (New York City socialite and model) – she mixes and matches. My mom is my other icon. She has a very classic look.
What clothing item can’t you live without? A white lace dress from Zara. You can wear it in any season.
What’s your go-to accessory? Usually earrings. Ever since I cut my hair super short a few years ago, I’m always looking for earrings.
What’s your favorite drink? A gin fizz.
Do you have any tips for shopping in chain stores? Scout for the original items. People are always surprised when I tell them something is from Express, for instance. I really try to find one-of-a-kind looks, even in stores like that.
What are you looking forward to this spring? Running the Fargo Marathon! I ran the half last year, and I’m excited for the full this year.
