Bail set for man in crossbow death

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Bail was set at $1 million for the man accused of killing a woman with a crossbow here on April 10.

David Lee Stensrud, 56, of Detroit Lakes, made his first appearance April 26 in Becker County District Court.

Stensrud was formally charged with second-degree murder in the death of 69-year-old Geraldine Kading, of rural Dent, the Detroit Lakes Tribune reported.

Police were called to Stensrud’s apartment just before 3 p.m. on April 10 after a report of a possible murder-suicide. Officers found Kading inside, with an arrow protruding from her chest.

Stensrud was found on the floor of a bedroom with an arrow protruding from his chest. There was a crossbow lying on the bed next to him.

Stensrud was unable to appear in court before April 26 due to the injuries he suffered in the incident. He did not enter a plea.

Stensrud is in custody pending his next scheduled court appearance Monday.

His bail was set at $1 million with conditions, or

$2 million without.
