Coach’s comments: “We have good balance of veteran and younger athletes on the team this spring. A number of the athletes return that have experience competing at the state meet, but our lack of depth could be an issue, especially at the conference meet. Our strength lies in our sprinting, hurdling, jumping and distance events.”

Fargo North

Coach: Aaron Walker (3rd year)

Last year’s finish: 6th at Class A state meet

Coach’s comments: “We should be in the top three in the conference this year. A lot of the girls have been stepping up in practice and have trained well in the offseason. We obviously lose quite a bit of points from last year, but we are going to be a talented team.”

West Fargo

Coach: Darin McKinnon (17th year)

Last year’s finish: 4th at Class A state meet

Coach’s comments: “We have more depth in our field events than we have had in past years. On the track we have strong senior leadership that will help with a young, inexperienced team. The EDC this season will be crowded at the top with very good teams and a lot of talent.”

Fargo Oak Grove

Last year’s finish: Did not score at Class B state meet.

Coach’s comments: “The team has been working hard and we hope to build our program up with a good showing this spring.”

Moorhead

Coach: Justin Gall (13th season)

Last season: 3,200 relay team of Taylor Janssen, Mackenzie Kelly, Mallori Johnson and Avery Selberg qualified for state. Took first at True Team section meet and qualified for True Team state meet.

Who’s gone: Katie Rosenseldt (100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles, 1,600 relay, triple jump), Mackenzie Randklev (distance runner), Alita Tayler (800), Morgan Nyquist (sprinter)

Who’s back: Taylor Janssen (distance runner), Sr.; Kristin Drechsel (shot put, discus), Sr.; Brooke Borgen (pole vault), Sr.; Jae Borgen (1,600, 200, 800), Sr.

Coach’s comments: “We’re in the same kind of boat as everyone else with the weather. We are just trying to get to a meet and have some fun and get some competitiveness. We have the same ability as last year, so we can win our True Team section meet and go on to the state meet. Individual wise, we have that same 4x8 team coming back, so we want to see them go back to state.”

Moorhead Park Christian

Coach: Megan Endreson (5th season)

Who’s gone: No graduates

Who’s back: Courtney Nepstad, Jr., competes in the 100-meter, 200 (seventh at state last season), 400 (sixth at state last season), 3,200 relay and the long jump; Anica Sawchuk (3,200 relay, 1,600, 3,200), So.; Sydney Larson (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, sprint relays), So.

Coach’s comments: “We are seeing a lot of growth for the girls team this year and are excited to see what they can accomplish. There are many returning athletes that we expect to do well again this season and we have been pleasantly surprised by the new girls that have joined us. The girls are working hard and are realizing their individual and team potential. We are very encouraged by the results we have seen at the indoor meets and are anticipating higher numbers of girl participants at the section meet and potentially the state meet.”

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton

Coach: Patrick Rieder (8th season)

Last season: Finished first in seven of 11 meets, won the Class 1A, Section 6 true team meet and the Subsection 30 and Class 1A, Section 8 meet

Who’s gone: Jasmine Nelson (sprinter, anchored the 400 meter relay team that qualified for state); Emily Frink (high jump); Jade Tigue (currently holds the school record in the 300 hurdles); Bethany McLaughlin (shot put)

Coach’s comments: “Our team goal this year is to return to the state true team meet in Stillwater. We strive to compete as a team, however, we do have a some girls that will be athletic enough to qualify for the state individual meet.”
