Suspected arson fire closes western Wisconsin schoolROBERTS, Wis. - Fire crews responded to a suspected arson fire at an elementary school in western Wisconsin about 3:44 a.m. today.
An official at St. Croix Central Elementary School in Roberts indicated the fire had likely been deliberately set.
The school office area and other sections of the school were heavily damaged. Even after two hours of fighting the blaze, fire was still smoldering in the ceiling of the school.
Numerous local fire departments responded to the fire scene to help fight the blaze. About 90 firefighters were reportedly on scene with about 15 fire units.
Classes at the elementary building will not be held for the day.
According to an email alert sent to parents, Superintendent David Bradley indicated that classes at the elementary will likely be canceled for the rest of the week.
