Letter: Senators’ votes protect our rightsThank you, Sens. John Hoeven, R-N.D., and Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., for voting against stricter gun controls (people controls) and more extensive background checks. It is truly an honor to know that our senators put the people and this country ahead of their own political interests. Thank you for protecting our Second Amendment which gives us the right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment guarantees all of the other freedoms provided by the United States Constitution and protects us from a government that is out of control and is determined to control our every move and activity.
Thanks to private citizens with guns, the Revolutionary War was a tremendous success and the greatest document in the world, the United States Constitution, was drawn up. We have no right to destroy such a sacred document. Our brave servicemen and servicewomen have died horrible deaths, been crippled and have made and are making unimaginable sacrifices to protect these very freedoms.
We owe it to them to at least fight as hard as they are to defend these freedoms and protect our U.S. Constitution. If we are not aggressively defending our U.S. Constitution, then we are helping destroy it. There is no more time to sit idle and hope all will get better.
