ND Guard soldiers leaving for mission in DCGRAND FORKS — More than 200 North Dakota National Guard soldiers are leaving for a yearlong deployment to the Washington, D.C., area, for a homeland security mission.
A send-off ceremony is scheduled Sunday morning at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks for the 1st Battalion of the 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment. Gov. Jack Dalrymple and state Guard commander Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk are expected to speak.
The unit is headquartered in Grand Forks and has units in Bismarck and Fargo. The deploying soldiers come from 27 North Dakota communities and 12 cities in neighboring states.
