TRADE TALK: Pasta plant planned for Casselton, N.D.

A new pasta-making plant will be going up here soon that expects to employ 20 to 25 people by the end of its first year of operation.

Abbiamo Pasta Co. – Italian for “We Have Pasta” – will be owned by partners who include Bruce Satrom. They chose Casselton as a location for the plant because of its proximity to Interstate 94 and to Fargo, and its potential pool of employees, Satrom said.

The start-up company has been approved for an $82,500 Partnership in Assisting Community Expansion loan from the Growth Initiative Fund.

The Growth Initiative Fund is a community revolving loan fund managed by the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp.

PACE loans are offered through a program connected with the Bank of North Dakota.

Abbiamo Pasta has the potential of creating 31 jobs in its first three years and potentially 50 to 60 jobs after five years, according to the Growth Initiative Fund.

The company is in the process of purchasing 11 acres in Casselton’s industrial park.

The plant will produce pasta products that will be packaged into meals and cartons for retail sale.

The building is initially planned to be 30,800 square feet, but it can be expanded to 123,000 square feet.

Mapleton rebuild

Rebuilding Together Fargo Moorhead Area and a youth group from Atonement Lutheran Church in Fargo will partner today to rehabilitate a home in Mapleton, N.D., as part of National Rebuilding Day.

Mapleton is about 16 miles west of Fargo.

Work on the home will include replacing the roof, tearing out flooring and kitchen cabinets, and working on the garage.

Rebuilding Together Fargo Moorhead Area is an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, an organization dedicated to safe and healthy homes that works to revitalize communities by providing free home repairs to low-income homeowners and free renovations to community centers.

The rebuilding project in Mapleton starts at 10 a.m. today at 505 3rd St.

“I am so excited for the opportunity to team up with the youth from Atonement and fellow community members to make a difference in the life of a family in need,” said Russ Richards, executive director of RTFMA.

ND booth popular

North Dakota Tourism recently promoted the state with a booth set up at six sports shows across the Midwest.

North Dakota backers chatted with more than 6,000 visitors to the booths, an increase of 14.5 percent from 2012.

Many of those who were curious about the state were outdoor enthusiasts interested in things like hunting and fishing, said Mike Jensen, outdoor promotions manager with North Dakota Tourism.

The North Dakota booth made appearances in St. Cloud and the Twin Cities in Minnesota; and in Omaha, Neb.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Milwaukee, Wis.
