NDSU NEWS: The following area North Dakota State University students placed at the North Dakota Chapter of the National Associations of Teachers of Singers annual auditions: Robert Kringler, Fargo, freshman men, first; Chelsey Schmitz, Fargo, sophomore women, third; Samantha Pyle, West Fargo, junior women, first; Beth Hoselton, Fargo, senior women, first; Travis Bregier, West Fargo, senior men, first; and Christopher Yanish-Taylor, West Fargo, music theater men, third.

Josephine Breen, Evan Kjos and Myah Inskeep of Fargo and Damir Kolakovic of West Fargo were members of an NDSU team who received the Olson Award for outstanding social media campaign at the District 8 National Student Advertising Competition.

Each year, a corporate sponsor provides a case study outlining the history of its product and current advertising situation.

Students must research the product and its competition, identify potential problems and develop an integrated communications campaign for the client.

AND THE WINNER IS: The following children were winners in the Fargo Public Library’s annual Design a Bookmark Contest: Cadence Gabriel, birth to age 5; Alice Bauroth, ages 6 to 8; Mickey Porter, ages 9 to 12.

The winning entries are on display at the downtown Main Library.

HIGH HONORS: Moorhead High School senior Nina Grollman has been named one of 550 semifinalists in the 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Semifinalists were selected from more than 3,900 candidates on the basis of superior achievements, leadership qualities, personal character and involvement in community and school activities. Final results will be announced in May.

2013 Barry Goldwater Scholarship winner David Eckman has been recognized by the University of Pittsburgh for his exceptional independent research in engineering. Eckman is majoring in industrial engineering with a minor in mathematics and economics at the college. He has worked on two health care projects through the Veterans Engineering Resource Center and studies an adversarial variation of the multi-armed bandit. Eckman also works at H.J. Heinz North America through a cooperative education program. He is a 2009 graduate of Fargo South High School.
