ND House passes tobacco prevention budget

BISMARCK — North Dakota's House passed the budget Friday for the voter-required North Dakota Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control Policy.

Representatives endorsed the $15.8 million funding bill 68-23 after voting it down a day earlier.

House Majority Leader Al Carlson told lawmakers Friday that the Legislature is required to approve a budget for the agency.

The anti-tobacco agency administers North Dakota's funds from a 1998 multistate settlement against the nation's largest tobacco companies.

The agency was created in 2008 after North Dakota accepted money from the settlement.
