West Fargo police arrest Fargo man after short high-speed chase

WEST FARGO – Police here arrested a Fargo man early Wednesday after a high-speed chase that ended when the suspect tried to leave a parking lot but was hampered by a large snow pile, Assistant Chief Mike Reitan reported.

An officer who saw a Chevy Cobalt traveling at a high rate of speed at 1:22 a.m. tried to catch up to him and activated his overhead lights, but the car continued to speed up and a short chase ensued, Reitan stated in a news release.

The car went through a red light at 13th Avenue and 14th Street East and pulled into a parking lot. It drove into an area where snow was stockpiled but was unable to drive through it, Reitan said.

Officers arrested the driver, 21-year-old Ian Grabarkewitz, on suspicion of DUI, fleeing a police officer and reckless endangerment.

A passenger in the vehicle also was jailed for an alleged marijuana offense, the release stated.
