Letter: Bill’s passage will help save lives

Thanks to the North Dakota Legislature for passing the Medicaid expansion bill and to Gov. Jack Dalrymple for signing the bill. This is good news for many low-income, working North Dakotans who are currently uninsured.

Expanded access to Medicaid means more individuals will see a doctor when they need to and can better manage chronic diseases, such as cancer, without facing huge medical expenses.

As an oncology nurse I know how important it is for people facing cancer to be diagnosed early and receive early treatment in order to save their lives. Individuals without insurance wait longer to seek medical attention, resulting in late diagnosis and treatment. This can be the difference between saving a life and losing one.

Thank you for recognizing the importance of providing health care coverage to our people in North Dakota.
