Local Red Cross chapter prepares for flood responseFARGO – American Red Cross Minn-Kota Region leaders are preparing for a flood response across the Red River Valley, with volunteers in place to perform mobile feeding as sandbag operations continue.
To date, the Red Cross has provided over 3,000 meals and 16,000 snacks to support sandbagging efforts up and down the Red River Valley, according to a news release. A majority of those meals and snacks have gone to Sandbag Central in Fargo.
The release stated that the Red Cross will send out emergency response vehicles to support mobile feeding for sandbagging operations in Halstad and Shelley, Minn.
Starting Thursday, volunteers in four emergency response vehicles from the Minn-Kota Region and two from the South Dakota Region will feed flood fighters across Clay and Cass counties.
There will also be a team of mental health professionals on duty to assist those struggling with flood concerns, and contingency plans are in place for sheltering should a need arise, the release stated.
